Avionics visualization specialist Barco has introduced a new line of airborne mission displays, specifically designed for use in harsh cabin environments. The new AX displays are exceptionally thin and come in 15-inch, 15-inch widescreen and 17-inch versions. For applications in need of a larger screen, Barco also unveiled the new 24-inch AL-361 mission display, heralding a new family of large-screen ‘AL’ mission displays.
“With the introduction of our new AX and AL display families, we can offer our customers an extremely versatile visualization solution optimized for night and daylight video images, moving maps, computers and radar inputs. Their thin design and great ease of use ensure simple integration in the cabin of virtually every mission aircraft,” says Jean-Christophe Monfret, Product and Program Director at Barco Avionics. “Combined with the existing MDU-2000 display family, our full mission display portfolio now covers all screen sizes from 6.5 inch up to 24 inch, while maintaining the highest degree of ruggedization and image quality,” Monfret adds.
The new Barco AX displays are fitted with advanced LED backlighting technology, which ensures high-grade image quality, even in bright sunlight conditions. Moreover, the displays are capable of accurately presenting night vision images without any color shifting. Users can efficiently interact with the display through an intuitive touch screen interface, which is highly accurate and very resistant to dust and water. The screen can be operated with fingertips and gloves as well as a stylus.
For mission aircraft and helicopters that require more screen real estate, Barco has developed the 24-inch AL-361. In spite of its large screen size, Barco achieved to keep the AL-361 remarkably thin, which makes it ideal for integration into confined cabin areas. The Barco AL family further includes a 19-inch AL-248 and a 20-inch AL-351, both featuring the same video features as the AL-361.
The new AL units are compatible with all common input signals, including daylight video cameras, moving maps, computer and radar. Moreover, the AL displays are ideally suited for FLIR applications, thanks to their 8-bit native video processing. The display’s optional touch screen interface enables fast and easy interaction with the displayed content, without compromising on image quality.
Barco’s new AL and AX mission displays are immediately available for commercial distribution. Amongst the early adopters are several large European helicopter programs, including the UK MoD Merlin Capability Sustainment Plus (MCSP) project.
