Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated flight decks, displays, and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced that new helicopter-specific interfaces uniquely position their EX600 Multi-Function Display (MFD) as the MFD solution of choice for helicopter operators. The EX600 is now approved as a display replacement for the Telephonics’ (née Bendix)RDR-1400-Series Color Weather and Search & Rescue Radar System. In addition, Avidyne has added the Honeywell MK XXI and MK XXII Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS) to the EX600’s extensive list of compatible interfaces. The EX600 also meets the stringent DO-160E vibration qualification required for helicopter operations.
“Avidyne continues to lead the industry in radar-replacement MFDs, and the addition of the RDR-1400 interface and HTAWS make the EX600 the MFD of choice for an even larger number of aircraft and helicopter operators,” said Rob Higby, Avidyne’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service.
“Helicopters represent a strategically important segment of the market for Avidyne’s MFD and Safety Sensor products,” said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our Traffic products have always had wide acceptance in the helicopter market, and now we are targeting helicopter-specific radar interfaces and HTAWS interfaces which are critical for MFDs in this market.”
About the EX600
The EX600 provides display replacement capability for the CRT-based RDR-1400 Weather and Search & Rescue (SAR) radar system, while adding significant new MFD features and functions. In addition to supporting normal Weather and Weather Alert radar modes, the EX600 also provides a display platform for a full-featured MFD capability. This includes a versatile moving map of GPS flight plan, datalink graphical weather, traffic, terrain, and CMax Approach Charts, in the same panel space previously occupied by the RDR-1400’s limited-functionality IN2025 radar indicator, which is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain. EX600 also provides limited support for some SAR modes of the RDR-1400 series including the Search 2 function, 60-degree sector scan, and manual Gain control.
The EX600 is a full-function MFD that is designed to enhance situational awareness and safety for pilots of general aviation airplanes and now for helicopters as well.
Incorporating all-new 5.8-inch diagonal, 640×480 pixel (VGA) display and Avidyne’s renowned easy-to-use pilot interface—including innovative new Map Panning keys and their exclusive QuickPanâ„¢ function—the EX600 dramatically improves a pilot’s ability to access and display critical flight data. QuickPan allows the pilot to quickly toggle between the present position and a panned-to position–such as Destination airport–with a single button push.
The EX600’s “map-centric” operation—especially helpful for helicopter operators—allows the pilot to view all the available safety information, including on-board radar, right on the map page without having to switch to dedicated or hidden pages as with many other MFDs.
All EX600s include the ability to display CMax™ approach charts & worldwide airport diagrams at no additional charge—as well as support for European VFR Charts—which provide an added measure of situational awareness during critical phases of flight and while taxiing, both domestically and internationally. CMax subscription services are available through Jeppesen.
With interfaces to twenty different radar models, the EX600 is the leader in radar-replacement MFDs, meaning it can act as a display replacement for many out-dated and un-repairable CRT radar displays, while adding significant situational awareness and utility enhancements.
In addition, the EX600 has standard interfaces (at no additional charge), providing the widest range of sensor interfaces available in a retrofit MFD including Traffic TAS600-Series Traffic Advisory capability and TWX670 Color Tactical Lightning Detection. With Avidyne’s unique MultiLink™ capability, the EX600 can display both broadcast datalink in the Continental U.S. (CONUS) through the MLB700 and international datalink through the MLX770 datalink transceiver. Optional TCAS I and HTAWS/TAWS/EGPWS interfaces are also available.
Pricing and Availability
EX600 is available now withpricing starts at $9,990 for the standard MFD, including CMaxâ„¢ Electronic Approach Charts, Worldwide Airport Diagrams, and standard interfaces for traffic and color lightning.
