INDIANAPOLIS – Today, St.Vincent Health officials announced a new integration agreement with PHI Air Medical. The agreement enhances the hospital system’s ONE Call Transfer service and creates a new critical care transport brand – St.Vincent StatFlight.

St.Vincent StatFlight has four air ambulances and bases located in Anderson, Danville, North Vernon and West Lafayette that serve communities and patients throughout the region. Through the integration agreement, the faith-based health organization will also extend its critical care ground transport ambulances to St.Vincent StatGround. The new air and ground ambulance integration is a significant component to St.Vincent Hospital’s journey to achieving trauma designation.

St.Vincent Health is comprised of 20 hospitals with a considerable presence in rural communities serving 47 Indiana counties. The integration of St.Vincent StatFlight will extend the system’s ability to provide immediate and quality comprehensive patient care to rural and urban patients. The air ambulance service’s extensive working relationships with other emergency health providers outside the St.Vincent Health system will remain the same.

“The integration of StatFlight and StatGround into St.Vincent Health ensures medical services are readily available for patients throughout the state,” said Michael Kaufmann, medical director of EMS Services and medical director for Air Medical Operations at St.Vincent. “When immediate critical care is needed, it is imperative to have the necessary transport resources to deliver the patient to the most appropriate care facility to achieve the best possible outcome.”

St. Vincent StatFlight employs industry leading safety initiatives like Night Vision Goggles (NVG), Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS) and radar altimeters on all of its helicopters—emphasizing the premier importance of safe and rapid patient transport. PHI Air Medical was the first operation of its size to equip all of its air medical aircraft with N VG technology.

The air and ground transportation ambulances will include the St.Vincent logo of the three doves, which represents caring for the total person – body, mind and spirit. A unique green and blue color scheme will give the medical helicopters and ground ambulance trucks a distinctive look as flight and ground crews attend to the immediate needs of patients and families.

Since 2005, St.Vincent Health has worked with PHI Air Medical to stabilize and transport critically ill or injured patients to advanced tertiary care facilities and physicians. St.Vincent StatFlight and StatGround further strengthen ONE Call Transfer, which provides first responders, physicians and care providers with a simple and efficient process to transfer patients to an acute care facility. The air and ground transport service also gives patients and families access to the health system’s highly specialized services such as cardiovascular, neurosciences, pediatrics, women’s and orthopedic care.

“St.Vincent Health and PHI Air Medical share a joint vision of focusing on professionalism, patient care, safety and compassion,” said Jonathan Collier, program director for PHI Air Medical. “This partnership will enhance patient care for the patients and communities we serve.”

Under the agreement, St.Vincent StatFlight and StatGround crews will receive training and medical direction from St.Vincent physicians. The hospital system and transport program will collaborate on outcome data reporting and quality improvement initiatives.
