Omniflight Helicopters, Inc., a leading national provider of air medical services, announced today that one of its flight paramedics, Don Wilson, was named Paramedic of the Year by East Alabama EMS Region II.

Wilson has been employed as a base clinical specialist (flight paramedic) with Alabama LifeSaver, an Omniflight company, since May 2007. He works at the company’s Rainbow City, Ala. base.

As a seasoned flight medic with about 25 years of experience in emergency medical services, Wilson also serves as EMS supervisor with the Gadsden Fire Department in Gadsden, Ala., in addition to his role with Alabama Life Saver.

When not in the air, Wilson provides clinical education and support to his colleagues as well as community outreach focused on the public safety area. He is described by his peers and managers as a model clinician and excellent resource for his team in terms of clinical expertise and safety.

“I am truly honored by this prestigious statewide recognition. I am completely fulfilled by the work I perform throughout East Alabama each and every day and take great pride in helping others. I thank East Alabama EMS for acknowledging my efforts but it really does take a village to provide EMS services to the communities we serve, and we are closely knit team that works diligently to ensure public health and safety,” Wilson said of his honor.

Wilson resides in Hokes Bluff, Alabama with his wife and children. He graduated from Gadsden State Junior College with a paramedic degree in 1980.
