Hillsboro Aviation, a leading provider of helicopter avionics services, is pleased to announce the availability of custom on-site installations for owners and operators of Bell helicopters. Hillsboro Aviation can save customers travel time, fuel expense and associated ferry costs by traveling to the customer’s facility and performing the installation and required documentation. Custom upgrades can also be designed to meet a customer’s specifications and requirements. The following products provide enhanced situational awareness and flight safety for helicopter owners and operators, regardless of their mission or use.

The G500H is designed to fit neatly into the limited panel space available. It features dual LCD screens with the Primary Flight Display (PFD) located on the right side and the Multifunctional Display (MFD) on the left, all within the same primary field of view. The PFD consolidates all primary situational information regarding position, speed, attitude, vertical rate, altitude and flight progress. Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) creates a virtual topographic landscape from the system’s terrain alerting database and provides information about obstacles in the pilot’s flight path. The MFD provides built-in map choices, navigation data, Safe Taxi and Flight Charts. The MFD also provides traffic and weather as add on systems which offer additional safety and situational awareness.

When a GNS 430W or 530W series Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS) navigator is installed and interfaced to the G500H, certified “forward looking” terrain avoidance (FLTA) capability is available which predicts where potential hazards may exist.

The HeliTAWS helicopter terrain safety system adds Sandel’s proprietary TrueAlert nuisance-alert elimination technology, off-airport landing capability and highresolution 3-D terrain display capabilities to basic Class A HTAWS functions. The result is that HeliTAWS is expected to significantly increase the safety of demanding helicopter missions.

Sandel’s TrueAlert technology increases pilot confidence in terrain technology by eliminating nuisance alerts. With TrueAlert, pilots can safely take off, cruise, hover and land at off-airport locations without triggering nuisance alerts, while still receiving the established benefits of Class-A terrain warnings during the entire flight. The HeliTAWS is a ruggedized, self-contained system with a high resolution display that retrofits by removing and replacing an existing radar altimeter. To view the product video, click here.

TrueView’s new EVS provides exceptional situational awareness during night operations or inadvertent flight into IMC. The camera sees through smoke, haze, light fog and darkness, providing images of terrain, runways, taxiways and other potential obstacles. The images are presented on a high resolution LCD display, provided in the kit, or can be viewed directly on the Garmin G500H.

Another feature of this product is the tilting camera which allows sight straight ahead or at 55 degrees down, enabling the pilot to hover over a target or orbit around the target in a small circle. It also allows the pilot to keep the landing zone centered on the screen all the way to the ground.
