LifeLine Critical Care Transport, a Clarian Health Partner, has just placed its fourth EC145 into service. The Indiana-based air medical provider selected the EC145 at the 2008 Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC), and placed its first EC145 into service in May of this year.

“LifeLine had been flying BK117s for over 25 years when the decision was made to upgrade to the new EC145,” said Steve Johnson, Manager of Business Operators for Clarian Health Systems and LifeLine Critical Care Transport. “We had been very pleased with the performance of the BK117, and the EC145 builds on that performance while adding increased flexibility to our operation.”

“The large cabin space and new technologies such as GPS approach and NVG along with the IFR capability allow us to use the aircraft in a multitude of ways,” Johnson continued. “The EC145’s flexibility maximizes our ability to perform whatever mission is required for our customer.”

LifeLine Critical Care Transport serves 19 hospitals throughout the state of Indiana. Its missions include critical care transport, adult specialty care transport, neo-natal and pediatric transfers, as well as on-the-scene flights. LifeLine operates 24/7 out of five bases throughout the state with a fleet of six helicopters, a KingAir 200, and ground ambulances. Founded in 1979, it is one of the oldest air medical providers in the country.

“Our program does a large number of specialty team transports ranging from neonates to adult trauma, often requiring special equipment and extra crew members, so the large cabin size and increased usable load are very important,” added Johnson. “The EC145 is perfect for the wide array of services we provide.”

The EC145, powered by two Turbomeca ARRIEL engines, offers excellent performance and a fast cruise speed. Its high set main and tail rotors, rear-loading clamshell doors, large cabin, extra payload capacity, unmatched visibility and additional safety features have made it the helicopter platform of choice for EMS missions in the United States and worldwide.
