Recession-proof: Able Aerospace Services grows, plans aggressive expansion

While consistently maintaining its focus on helping operators reduce aircraft operating costs with safe, approved value-driven component repair, overhaul and replacement part (PMA) solutions, Able Aerospace Services is a company on the move.

Even as Able closes out its most successful year to-date it has mapped out an aggressive plan to achieve 300 percent growth within three to five years. To that end, Able is expanding its personnel, facilities and capabilities.

“More than ever, rotorcraft operators are demanding cost-effective alternatives to expensive OEM solutions,” said Lee Benson, president and CEO of Able. “Able is positioned to meet their requirements today and into the future.”

The company will upgrade and expand its facility in early 2012 to a 191,000-square foot property with its own hangar.

Able utilizes a “Captive Shop” approach to MRO services, with all FAA approval processes, design, engineering, machining, plating and related activities occurring in-house, to control cost, delivery and quality.

“By keeping our processes in-house, we are able to fully control all aspects of the work that we do for our customers, not to mention the costs,” Benson continued. “Our captive shop strategy enables us to have the quickest turnaround time for repairs and overhauls in the industry.”

Able’s value-driven approach and efficient operation helped PHI, Inc., a Tier-1 helicopter operator, save over $1.3 million in 2010. PHI saved $110,000 by purchasing 95 separate PMA (versus OEM) parts, and saved an additional $800,000 by utilizing Able’s component repairs (instead of buying new from the OEM).

PHI plans to expand its significant savings with Able into 2011.

Able has recently taken its customer-centric solutions a step further with a series of newly launched overhaul programs for Eurocopter AS350 and Bell 407 and 206 helicopters. Under the Able Preferred™ program, the company provides key dynamic component overhauls for these core platforms, providing customers with superior savings, delivery, quality and service.
