New US Forest Service firefighting standards could cost a $50K upgrade per aircraft

The new standards apply only to call-when-needed contracts, and they apply only to the Type III, smaller type of helicopters used for dropping between 100 and 300 gallons of retardant and transporting up to eight firefighters.  These aircraft will now be required to be equipped with wire-cutting kits
