Telvent have announced a free webinar on new advanced weather alerting capabilities for European helicopter operators.  The online seminar is scheduled for 26th May at 15:00 CEST / 14:00 London, and is targeted at 30 minutes with a 10 minute Q&A session.

In their promotional material, Telvent tells us that “weather is the single factor that most impacts safety and profitability of helicopter operations. In fact, a large, global, publicly traded helicopter company in its annual report listed weather as the most important financial risk in the company’s outlook. Harsh weather – including poor visibility, high wind, thunderstorms, and sand storms – can reduce flight hours, result in damage to equipment, and all too often can lead to personal injury or even death.

The value a helicopter operation realizes from an aviation weather information service depends on how well that service helps make fast and reliable decisions. Weather observations such as radar images or METARs, and forecasts such as TAFs, need to be current and as close to real time as possible. This information must be clearly time-stamped and reliably provided. Most important, it needs to be available to everyone in the helicopter operation, from pilots to communications centers and dispatchers, to support quick, sound decisions. It is vital all personnel have access to this reliable information at the same time, to assure they share a common operational view.

Further, weather information needs to be integrated with other operational information such as in-flight helicopter position reports, to assure there are no weather ‘surprises’ during a flight.”
