Starflight operates in a 75 nautical-mile radius of Jamestown in the northern reaches of New York state, and flies patients to specialty centers in Buffalo, Rochester, Pittsburgh, Erie and Cleveland.  They are celebrating their 25th anniversary.  The service is provided by WCA Hospital, working together with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.  The program operates two MD900 Explorers, which they took on charge ni early 2009, superceding older military surplus UH-1s.  The MD900s are both early 1995/1996 builds, previously operated by  Allegheny Life Flight of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Starflight began operation on Aug. 20, 1986, and has since taken care of 7,500 patients, 6,600 of which were flights and 975 of which had to be taken by the ground crew when weather was bad. According to facts provided, 60% are inter-hospital transfers and 40% swoop-and-scoop on-scene calls.
