Bell estimated to have paid $1 Million for domain name

Discussion is going on in the internet domain industry about Bell Helicopter after they acquired the domain name BH.com from publishers Elsevier.

Previously owned by Elsevier for their subsidiary Butterworth-Heinemann, it was sold to Bell between August 30th 2010 and September 7th 2011, when Bell Helicopter became the domain registrant (see below)

The name BH.com currently points to a holding page where you can select to go Bell or Elsevier’s website, defaulting to Bell if you fail to click on either option within 15 seconds.  We expect it will in due time point direct to Bell’s home page.

Discussion is ongoing as to the value of the domain name, with most estimates in the range of $500K to $1 Million.  The value is mainly due to the other potential interested parties – in particular Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway group or the massive New York-based store BH Photo & Video.  Berkshire Hathaway already undestands the value of such short domain names with DQ.com and JM.com both owned by group companies.
