Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.’s (P&WC) PW200 turboshaft engine fleet recently flew its 5 millionth hour, further confirming the engine series’ leadership position in the global light-twin helicopter markets. P&WC is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

P&WC introduced the PW200 engine family in the 1990s in response to demands for multi-role rotary flight. Competing in the 500 to 800 shp class, the series leverages the experience of P&WC’s legendary PT6 engine family to offer operators unprecedented levels of reliability and economy.

The PW200’s modular design and only three major rotating components make it one of the simplest turboshaft engines in its class. Extensive use of new technologies, such as electronic control, advanced materials and coatings, also provides greater power and lower fuel consumption combined with low emissions and high reliability. In addition, electronic control allows for reduced pilot workload, ease of helicopter operation and a safe one-engine inoperative pilot training feature.

PW210: Giving Flight to a New Generation of Aircraft

The new PW210 engine family, scheduled to enter service later this year, has been developed to meet market demand in the 1,000 shp range. The PW210 is shaping a new generation of large single and intermediate-to-medium twin-engine helicopters raising the bar in terms of operating performance in its class. Certified in 2011, the PW210S model will power Sikorsky’s new S-76D helicopter. A second model, the PW210A has been selected to power the new AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter in the 4.5 ton class.
