Canada approves MD902 for VFR flight

MD Helicopters, Inc (MDHI), a leading manufacturer of commercial and military helicopters, is pleased to announce Transport Canada’s approval of the MD900) for day/night, VFR operation in Canada. With this Canadian approval, the MD900 has now been certified for operation in fifty countries, since its introduction in 1994. The certification t is a significant step forward towards earning full approval for the newer MD Explorer 902 configuration with Pratt & Whitney 206E and 207E Engines and IFR STC operation. This approval for the upgraded aircraft is expected in the next few months.

Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada 207E engines, each with 720 shaft horsepower, the MD 902 Explorer has the highest payload in the light-twin class. With a maximum gross weight of 6,500 pounds (2948 kg), it boasts exceptional power for take-off and landing on elevated platforms. The Category A rating allows for continuity of takeoff with safe return to the takeoff point in the event of a failure of one of its engines. The NOTAR system makes the MD Explorer the most quiet and safest helicopter in its class. The MD Explorer is certified by the FAA, China’s CAAC and Europe’s EASA for Category A and single pilot instrument flight rule (IFR) operations.
