Advance Helicopters (www.advancehelicopters.com) is now approved and operating at Shoreham Airport, near Brighton.

The new venture has been set up by James Morrey and Spencer Phillips, with aviation’s highly regarded Ian MacGregor, acting as a consultant and examiner for the new company. All three previously worked at FAST Helicopters, whose sudden demise, through no fault of its own, left many students and local aviation enthusiasts wanting the gap filled, preferably by the same staff.

Advance Helicopters was officially founded on the 14th February 2012 and has already begun flying. They currently have approval for teaching Private Pilots’ Licence for both European and American ratings, and further approvals are in the pipeline to include Commercial Licence, and Type Ratings.

Trial lessons are also available, with prices detailed on their website, as are Charters, so if you fancy surprising someone with an usual gift or just want to arrive in style at a special event, Advance Helicopters can make it happen.

‘FAST already had a good reputation for training, and producing good, safe pilots, ‘says James Morrey, ‘at Advance, we want to continue with that, and expand it further.’ Consultant, Ian MacGregor, agrees with this. ‘Spencer and James both became pilots because of their passion for helicopters, and flying. That drive and enthusiasm really comes across to produce some of the best, most professional and thorough training available”.

Another aspect that Advance plans to continue and enhance is the social side. Many students would drop by for a cup of coffee and a chat, even when they weren’t flying. ‘That’s definitely something we want to continue, and build on,’ Spencer Phillips said, ‘the social aspect is something both the staff and students really enjoy. It’s good to get to know people outside of the cockpit, as well as their families.’
