11 Apr, 12German EMS operator ADAC has recently welcomed the first female pilot to their roster of around 150. Melanie von Allwörden has joined their "Christop 39" base at Perleberg, approx 100 miles south east of Hamburg, flying a Eurocopter EC135. The 34-year old previously worked for the Hamburg Police - and lives in Hamburg with her partner and three children. Her interest in flying apparently dates back to childhood holidays to the Canary Islands!
In 2001, ADAC flew a total of 47,315 missions and currently flies a fleet of 51 helicopters operating from 34 bases. Of these, Christoph 39 flew 1,021 missions.
