Calstar appoints new Director of Medical Operations

California Shock Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR) has named Cordelia Resident Scott Wallace, R.N., C.C.R.N., C.F.R.N., as its new Director of Medical Operations, CALSTAR COO Tad Henderson announced.

In his new position, Wallace will have direct responsibility for all medical operations of CALSTAR, the largest non-profit air ambulance provider on the West Coast.

“Scott is a true medical professional and a great addition to our operations team,” Henderson said. “He has a long track record of exercising excellent judgment, both in clinical and business settings, and has long been a trusted advisor for CALSTAR leadership.”

Wallace has been a registered nurse since 1990 and has been with CALSTAR for 17 years. Since 1997 he has been a chief flight nurse for the company.

Wallace earned an AA Degree in Nursing from Deanza College in Cupertino and later a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA. Before becoming a registered nurse, Wallace worked for several years as an Emergency Medical Technician.

Over the years, Wallace has earned a number of certifications, including one as a commercial pilot—multi-engine, instrument. Additionally, he has certifications as a critical care registered nurse and as a certified flight registered nurse.

Wallace has served extensively as an instructor. He has taught classes in advanced trauma training and pre-hospital trauma life support.  In all, he has taught more than 700 hours on various subjects for flight nursing and nursing education.

CALSTAR is now in its 29th year of operation and it has completed more than 45,000 flights without a single injury to a patient or crew member.  It has nine bases and serves a wide-ranging area from Santa Barbara to Mendocino to South Lake Tahoe.  The company is headquartered at McClellan Park in Sacramento.
