4 Jul, 12The Netherlands military have today reported that their Navy SH-14D Lynx helicopter (serial 277) that was abandoned on the beach of the Lybian city of Sirte in February 2011, is back in the Netherlands. The helicopter was used last year in an unsuccessful evacuation attempt from Hr.Ms. Tromp frigate. The three crew members were held hostage by Kadafi’s troops. They were released after 10 days, but the helicopter had to be left behind on the beach. As the helicopter is considered to be a strategic asset she had to be returned. The helicopter will be disassembled and the remains scrapped.
