Helicopter Company Helicon has been declared bankrupt by the court in Breda. The cause of the bankruptcy is the departure of Gasunie as a major customer. Seventy percent of the Helicon operations were pipeline inspections for the Gasunie. Earlier this year local utility Gasunie chose German operator SP Luftbild to survey their pipelines, a contract previously flown by Helicon.

The Helicon subsidiary in Lelystad had already been privatized and is not affected by the bankruptcy.

Earlier this year a Helicon Robinson R44 came down in a lake near Zwolle. The occupants survived the accident.

The Bergen op Zoom based company also hired out four more helicopters to various companies and for pleasure flights. Helicon will not restart operations and one is trying to sell the helicopters in England.
