Transport Canada is closing in on the announcement that it has certified the Robinson R66. In a similar way to Russia, Canada has recently accepted the ELOS document issued by the FAA – and that is the last key piece in the jigsaw. ELOS (Equivalent Level Of Safety) is a technical reassurance on the hydraulic system of the machine. Robinson Helicopter Co confirmed the progress to HeliHub.com
There have been a handful of FAA-certified (N-registered) R66s operating in Canada from the start, and back in September 2011, HeliHub.com was aware of one in the Robinson Helicopter Co delivery hangar carrying the registration C-FTIL and understood to be sold to Technisonic Industries replacing an R44 they had with that same registration.
We expect the official certification to be issued within a month. Expect a sudden surge of R66 orders – this is a country with a fleet of over 400 R44s, a measure we believe is a key factor in R66 sales.
