AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce it has signed a contract for the sale of its first AW139 helicopter in Senegal. The contract, which marks the entrance of AgustaWestland helicopters in the regional market, includes in-country support services and training for both aircrew and maintainers. The helicopter will be operated by the Senegal Air Force.

With the largest passenger cabin in its class the AW139 can accommodate its passengers in a spacious, comfortable and quiet environment. The unobstructed cabin design allows maximum flexibility for seating configurations whilst providing its passengers with excellent visibility through the six large cabin windows. Ample room is available for accessories such as telecommunications, work areas, refreshments and stowage. The baggage compartment, with an additional 120 ft3 of space, is easily accessible from outside the helicopter.

State-of-the-art technology, outstanding performance, low operating costs and the only helicopter in its class to meet the latest safety standards, have made the AW139 the helicopter of choice in the intermediate twin market. Around 720 AW139s have been sold in almost 60 countries to over 200 customers so far for many roles including VIP/corporate transport, passenger transport, law enforcement, fire fighting, offshore transport, search and rescue, emergency medical service, disaster relief and maritime patrol.

The AW139 has a maximum cruise speed of 306 km/h, maximum range in excess of 927 km, maximum flight time of five hours and outstanding hover performance. The AW139 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67C turboshaft engines, equipped with full-authority digital engine controls (FADEC) and each is rated at 1,679 shp for take-off.
