The rooftop helipad at the Ramsey Lake Health Centre of Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord (HSN) will be back in operation Monday, June 24, 2013.

Remedial work to the helipad has been completed, allowing it to reopen ahead of schedule.

The helipad was closed May 27th to allow for repairs to the helipad’s drainage system and surface. During the construction, Ornge air ambulance helicopters have been landing at a temporary helipad in a vacant field near Bethel Lake, three kilometres from the Ramsey Lake Health Centre.

“We are very pleased that the contractor, Ellis Don, was able to complete the helipad work ahead of schedule,” says Joe Pilon, HSN’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President. “Patient safety is our top priority and now our helipad will reopen in time for the peak summer trauma season.”

With the reopening of the permanent helipad, HSN will begin decommissioning the Bethel Lake site. That process will begin during the first week of July and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Health Sciences North/Horizon Santé-Nord is grateful for the ongoing support of the community through its foundations, Health Sciences North Foundation and the Northern Cancer Foundation, and the HSN Volunteer Association.
