The Philadelphia Police Department has placed orders with American Eurocopter for two AS350 B2 helicopters as part of its fleet expansion plan, becoming the latest in a growing list of major U.S. Law Enforcement agencies to select the high performance Eurocopter aircraft. The purchases were financed through federal grants.

“Track record is important,” said Capt. Kenneth O’Brien of the Philadelphia Police Department. “The AStar has assisted in countless successful missions for some of America’s most experienced airborne law enforcement units. The aircraft’s reputation as a multi-mission workhorse weighed heavily in our decision.”

Logging approximately 1,000 flight hours annually, the Philadelphia Police Department Aviation Unit will utilize the new aircraft for general patrol duties, rescue missions and SWAT incursions. They will also be used for homeland security and port security missions. The two AS350 B2s will be delivered in the summer of 2014.

“When the Philadelphia Police Department decided to expand its fleet, there was a great deal of discussion within the industry and media as to who would ultimately be chosen to fulfill those needs,” said Ed Van Winkle, American Eurocopter Sales Manager for Airborne Law Enforcement. “American Eurocopter is extremely proud that our AS350 B2, the aircraft law enforcement agencies rely on for their most demanding missions, was ultimately selected. The multi-purpose, single-engine aircraft’s flexibility and low acquisition cost have made it a very sought-after helicopter.”

Eurocopter’s AS350 line, which includes the AS350B3e, are the most widely used helicopters by U.S. law enforcement agencies with more than 200 in use across the country. The maneuverability, high visibility and low cabin vibration levels of the AS350 line have made have it the helicopter of choice for local, state and federal law enforcement. Built and certified in the U.S., this cost-effective helicopter cruises at 133 kts and has a range of up to 360 nautical miles with the power of its 732-shp Turbomeca Arriel 1D1 turboshaft engine.

American Eurocopter is exhibiting at the IACP 2013 Conference in Philadelphia, Oct. 19-23, at Booth 2441. For more information on industry leading helicopters, visit American Eurocopter’s website: www.eurocopterusa.com
