HeliHub.com exclusive – Marenco SwissHelicopter have completed the first engine runs in their prototype SKYe SH09 helicopter.  The Honeywell HTS900-2 was fired up for the first time in the prototype on Friday 31st January, and all of the tests scheduled were completed successfully.

The SKYe SH09 is marketed as the only helicopter in the 2.5 metric ton class to combine a full-composite fuselage, an advanced bearing-free rotor system with 5-blades, an electronically governed engine and a glass-cockpit.

The HTS900 engine utilizes a Dual Channel FADEC system with a manual backup provision to ease pilot workload and to facilitate engine maintenance planning and troubleshooting.  It also incorporates next generation technology developed by Honeywell including a Dual Centrifugal Compressor. The Dual Centrifugal Compressor increases engine power output, reduces engine fuel consumption and provides for engine growth with the same compressor architecture.

THe HTS900-2 has a 5 minute (take-0ff) rating of 998 shp in a single-engine configuration like the SKYe SH09, and a max.continuous rating of 891 shp – both figures being uninstallted, sea level at ISA conditions.   The engine also has high rotating component lives – a great help with lower operating costs – and both the  Compressor and Turbine Sections have overhall limits of 15,000 cycles
