Air Evac Lifeteam Brazil, Indiana Clinical Base Lead, Stacy Fiscus, NREMT-P, FP-C, CCP-C, CCEMTP, has been awarded the 2014 Safety Management Training Academy (SMTA) Scholarship by the MedEvac Foundation International. Fiscus receives the scholarship based on her high level of involvement in safety initiatives in the critical care transport community.

Fiscus currently serves as Vice Chair of the AAMS Vision Zero initiative where she fosters critical conversations based on safety related topics through her management of the Vision Zero social media platforms.

This past year, she recorded a digital safety story through The Center for Medical Transport Research discussing the importance of speaking up when unsafe decisions are being made. Fiscus is a part of the Air Evac Lifeteam Safety Focus Team, and is currently chairing the committee organizing the first annual Indiana Safety Summit. She stated “that having a broader understanding of SMS will strengthen my contribution to the focus team and my company.”

SMTA provides formal continuing education for individuals (and their organizations) interested in improving their understanding of safety systems theory and the application of that theory to the practice of medical transportation. The Academy operates with a rigorous approach to competency-based education, utilizing formal classroom hours, mandatory student participation, written testing, and a code of professional conduct.

The scholarship is made possible through a gift to the Foundation by the Air Medical Operators Association (AMOA). Christopher Eastlee, President of AMOA, states, “AMOA’s support of the SMTA scholarship is a part of our ongoing industry wide effort to enhance safety in air medial transport; we recognize SMTA’s value as the ideal way to introduce a broad spectrum of safety concepts to our crews.”

“Congratulations to Ms. Fiscus, the ideal candidate for the 2014 SMTA Scholarship,” says MedEvac Foundation President and CEO, Rick Sherlock. “The SMTA program provides a wide range of safety education that Ms. Fiscus can put to great use at Air Evac Lifeteam, as well as a wider dissemination of the information through her active involvement in our Vision Zero initiative.”

There is still limited space available for the Safety Management Training Academy!  Learn more about the Academy.
