AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company is proud to provide its support to the Royal Canadian Air Force in deploying an AW101/CH-149 Cormorant for Exercise COOPERACIÓN III in Peru.  The exercise is running until May 2, 2014.

“This is the first time the RCAF has deployed a Cormorant outside Canada and we are pleased to provide assistance with this important demonstration of how Canada can enhance its international search and rescue and disaster relief capabilities,” said Jeremy Tracy, Head of Region – Canada, AgustaWestland.

AgustaWestland engineers and technicians are providing training and field support to the Canadian Armed Forces on the deployment. This includes the loading and unloading of the Cormorant from the C177 Globemaster using the Air Transportability Kit (ATK) Canada acquired with air frames and spare parts acquired from the U.S. Government to support the maintenance of the Cormorant fleet.

“This was a very astute acquisition on Canada’s part not just to support ongoing maintenance but to increase the capability and deployment of the fleet,” said Mr. Tracy. “The ATK can be used to quickly ferry a Cormorant in disasters and emergencies in the far north or other countries.”

The Cormorant has significantly greater capabilities in range, capacity and all-weather performance compared to the smaller utility helicopters typically deployed by the RCAF on international missions in the past.
