Helitech visitors down 55% from 2013 to 2014

Helitech organisers Reed have put out a press release to say they had “over 2,500 visitors” at their 2014 event in Amsterdam, while the equivalent 2013 post-event report had a figure of 5,600 visitors, indicating a reduction of 55.4%.

The figures for exhibitors was also down, with 180 companies representing 22 countries, numbers down from 220 exhibitors and 26 countries in 2013.  HeliHub also had reports of exhibitors closing down their stand/booth some hours prior to the official Thursday close due to low footfall – which appears to be in line with the organiser’s own figures.

From the 180 exhibitors in Amsterdam, Heliech tell us that 65 were new exhibitors, so 115 of the 180 had exhibited before. In the best scenario, those 115 all exhibited in 2013 and are part of the 220 figure.  Looking the other way round, that means 105 of the 2013 exhibitors (48%) chose not to exhibit in 2014, and while the Helitech sales team obviously did a good job getting new exhibitors in, that fall-out rate must be a concern to them.

The trend continues with the number of aircraft  down from 18 in 2013 to 8 – both of which compare very poorly to the last time the show was at Duxford when there were 39 helicopters on site. These figures look at certified aircraft, and the eight thus excludes AgustaWestland’s AW169 air ambulance mockup and a Bo105 shell being used by Airborne Technologies to demonstrate the work they do with sensor equipment.

From previous discussions HeliHub.com has had with the Helitech organisers, they have had no intention of going back to the Duxford format, as they are targetting being the European version of HAI’s Heli-Expo.  Perhaps the appalling figures from Amsterdam will make them evaluate again?
