UT Lifestar will move its medical helicopter from its current base at Sweetwater’s Fire Hall No. 2 on the new Highway 322 Connector to a new location at Interstate 75’s Exit 60, Mayor Doyle Lowe said.

Lifestar has had a base at the Fire Hall for a decade. Lowe said the move will take a few months, but was solely a business decision.

“Nobody is mad or upset with each other,” Lowe said.

The mayor said he is happy that the helicopter will still be based in the Sweetwater area and Lifestar is excited to move forward with their new location on Interstate 75.

Lifestar formally moved into the Fire Hall in the fall of 2005. Monroe County had been a frequent user of the helicopter, as it made 224 flights in the county in 2004, second only to Sevier County that year.
