Bristow has added a new hangar and modular offices at Stanley Airport in the Falkland Islands to help improve operational efficiencies for oil and gas commercial services and search and rescue (SAR) support.

The new BVE helicopter hangar facility was designed, manufactured and constructed by RUBB UK to house three Sikorsky S-92 helicopters. It measures 39.5m span x 45m long x 6m to eaves and features a 30m wide x 6m high manual sliding door. The hot dipped galvanized steel frame is clad with an inner PVC skin insulated with encapsulated rock wool designed to achieve thermal efficiency as specified in UK building regulations. The outer PVC membrane completes the structure.

“The buildings provide an excellent standard of warm and dry facilities in a very harsh environment, with all of the space and functions required for 24-hour SAR and two crew-change S-92s,” said Bristow’s Operations and Service Delivery Manager Adrian Rose. “The hangar includes a decontamination unit for post-rescue use by SAR rear-crew. It also has the capacity to house a fourth aircraft.”

In addition to being used to service, maintain and store the Bristow’s fleet of helicopters, the hangar will also be used to support SAR operations and training exercises.
