Whirly-Girls announce 2016 Scholarship Winners

Whirly-Girls International, a non-profit, educational, and charitable organization dedicated to advancing women in the helicopter aviation industry, has announced the winners of the 2016 Whirly-Girls Scholarship Awards.

The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Committee made the announcement on Februaruy 28 at the Whirly-Girls International Annual Awards Banquet during the HAI Heli-Expo convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The Whirly-Girls awarded a record breaking number of 28 scholarships to deserving female aviators, setting the bar for the entire helicopter industry, thanks to the support of aviation leaders.

Winners of the Whirly-Girls Scholarships are:

  • Louise Nutter and Cristina Gonzalez Odriozola: Air Evac Lifeteam Bell 206 Flight Training Scholarships
  • Sarah Smith-Dufton: Airbus Flight Training Scholarship
  • Ashlyn Parker: Agricultural Air Services Flight Training Scholarship
  • Adele Dobler: Aviation Specialties Unlimited NVG Flight Training Scholarship
  • Tosha Cypher, Marie Fanjoy, Alison Martin, Joni Schultz, and Sherri Spagnola: Bristow Group Scholarships
  • Tosha Cypher: Embry-Riddle Commercial Helicopter Pilot Ground School Course Scholarship
  • Dolores Greenlaw: Antipodean Aviation and Embry-Riddle Wire and Obstacle Environment Awareness Course Scholarship

  • Yasmina Platt: Whirly-Girls Helicopter Add-on Flight Training Scholarship

“The 2016 scholarship season is a record breaking year, “ said Collen Chen, Whirly-Girl Vice President of Scholarships. “We have doubled the number of scholarships offered last year with 28 scholarships for 2016. We are so amazed and pleased with the support that we have received from the helicopter industry.”

The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund, Inc. (“WGSF”) was incorporated in 1974 to oversee and administer the scholarship funds raised by the Whirly-Girls and their Auxiliaries, and is a federally tax exempt 501(c)(3) public charity. Initiated in 1968, the scholarship program has grown from a single $500 scholarship to a wide range of training and development scholarships valued today in excess of $150,000.
