Portuguese town council refuses heliport use for offshore work

The Portuguese town of Loulé has rejected a request for their municipal heliport to be used as a gateway to support oil and gas exploration off the country’s Algarve coastline. The request was to use the heliport for night flights from a period of at least 45 days starting in September and at times when Faro Airport is closed.

This was apparently an easy decision as Loulé was a signatory to the unanimous statement issued on 19th May by the Regional Council of the Algarve, in which opposition to the exploration and extraction of oil and gas in the Algarve was made, whether on land or at sea.
