The Department for Transport bought 11 Sikorsky S92 and Agusta Westland AW189 helicopters from the American company Bristow for £1.9 billion, but the helicopters themselves are too large to land at hospital helipads. The hospitals Newcastle, Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol and Sheffield are being affected by the lack of helicopters available. Newcastle officials have brought the issue up with the Civil Aviation Authority, reports the Daily Star.
