Kenya and Uganda will receive 10 Huey II helicopters from Bell Helicopter, who have received a total of $86 million in foreign military sales contracts. An additional 5 Huey IIs will be delivered to another African military but Steve Suttles, Vice President for Bell Helicopter, could not name the customer.

Bell Helicopter aims to finish the aircrafts by 29 December 2017. The Huey II is a combination of the commercial Bell 212’s dynamic components and the 1800 shp Honeywell T53-L-703’s engine, reports IT Web. The combination means that the craft will have increased hover performance and the overall weight of the craft will be 4763kg. The airframe has been refurbished to OEM standards, with avionic updates, rewiring and a selection of mission specific kits. The craft will be able to fly at 196km per hour at gross weight, with a fuel tank that will last 2.6 hours.
