EASA refuses to provide GA update via webinar

EASA has put out a press release regarding “GA Roadmap update”, which reports on recent achievements, and more importantly, where they think European aviation is going.  Timing to coincide with the AERO event in Friedrichshafen on Thursday, 6 April 2017 from 12.00 to 14.00, the event is only open to those attending in person.  The description given is as follows:

Discover the good progress of the GA roadmap activities and learn more about the changes which already have been implemented and those to come – e.g. regarding Part-M light, CS-STAN, Private Pilot Training outside ATO, Easier access to IFR flying, CS-23 or specific rules for balloons. EASA Certification Director Trevor Woods and the GA Roadmap team will guide you through this lunch event. Some snacks and refreshments will be available.

When the HeliHub.com team requested details of how to log onto this via a webinar, EASA’s response was “We will not be able to hold a webinar”.  HeliHub.com suggests that EASA is not fulfilling their remit if they insist on providing an update to just those few who attend an event in Germany, when their responsibility covers 32 member states.  Yes, there will be some people at AERO from outside Germany, but it is a very naive approach to assume that everyone who needs to hear the update will be there in person.

HeliHub.com thus calls on EASA to modernise and provide updates by webinar.
