The Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Island (CAACI) has issued a warning to the public about kite flying after an incident on March 17, where a kite’s line became entangled in the rotor blades of a police helicopter. The crew have commented that they saw a kite in the air by the cricket pitch in West Bay but when they moved to avoid collision, became entangled in a second kite that they did not see.

Local authorities have said that kites are only allowed to fly at a maximum of 100 feet, whereas these kites were an estimated 300 feet. Luckily the crew and helicopter were okay, but the line that was wrapped around the blades could have caused a fatal accident, reports CNS.
