George Washington University Hospital is hoping to add a helipad to the southwest side of the hospital. They recently renewed their Level 1 Trauma Centre verification. They are the only adult trauma centre in the area without a helipad. Medstar Washington Hospital Centre has a helipad but only deals with the critically injured cases and Children’s National Medical Centre only deals with paediatric cases. The D.C Council is thinking about undoing a helipad ban for hospitals in residential areas from having a helipad. The ban has been active for almost 30 years. Residents, when asked why they want to ban helipads, have called helicopters a “nuisance,” reports Washington Business Journal.
