The Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation has recently announced their new safety measures with regards to foreign commercial helicopter pilots. These pilots must undergo special training as well have specific flight hours according to their contract duration in order to fly in the country. This safety measure was created after an accident in 2016. The H125 Airbus helicopter that went down killed six people, including the deputy Prime Minister. The crash was blamed on the bad weather as well as the Filipino pilot who was unfamiliar with the Malaysian landscape, reports Australian Aviation. A minimum of 1,000 hours flight time as well as 10 hours of “local familiarization flights” has been implemented.
