12-Aug-12 AF-808 Mil Mi-24 (1 of 3) Mount Kenya, Kenya (7F)

Three Mi-24 helicopters of a group of four ferrying from Uganda to Somalia impacted Mount Kenya in poor weather and in close formation - all three wrecks within 1km of each other approx 11,000ft above sea level.  This helicopter completely burnt out (photo), except the last part of the tail which revealed its serial AF-808.  All seven on board died - named as Capt. William Letti, Lt. Patrick Nahamya, 2nd Lt. Robert Mushabe, 2nd Lt. Nelson Mulumba, WO. David Kakube, Sgt. Mweshezi Rahumata and Sgt. Charles Lukwago.  Weather/Visibility was reportedly a factor.  The fourth helicopter, a Mi-8, continued to its intended destination

12-Aug-12 AF-807 Mil Mi-24 (2 of 3) Mount Kenya, Kenya

Three Mi-24 helicopters of a group of four ferrying from Uganda to Somalia impacted Mount Kenya in poor weather and in close formation - all three wrecks within 1km of each other approx 11,000ft above sea level.  This helicopter ended up almost completely inverted on its rotorhead in an area of long grass - photo and another and tail photo showing AF-807 code.  It also carries the "AU" titles for the work it was intended for in Somalia.  8 on board, all survived.  Weather/Visibility was reportedly a factor  The fourth helicopter, a Mi-8, continued to its intended destination

12-Aug-12 AF-8** Mil Mi-24 (3 of 3) Mount Kenya, Kenya

Three Mi-24 helicopters of a group of four ferrying from Uganda to Somalia impacted Mount Kenya in poor weather and in close formation - all three wrecks within 1km of each other approx 11,000ft above sea level.  This helicopter ended up in a 45 degree left bank situation in a wooded area (photo).  7 on board, all survived, but with serious injuries.  It also carries a yellow "3" on the nose and the AU titles for the work it was intended for in Somalia.  Pilot was Lt.Col Chris Kasaija.  Weather/Visibility was reportedly a factor.  The fourth helicopter, a Mi-8, continued to its intended destination

05-Aug-12 G-CMCC Robinson R44 Nairobi, Kenya

Low-rotor-rpm horn sounded on climb-out.  Skids hit uneven ground during run-on landing, causing helicopter to fall on its side.  Two occupants exited safely only to watch the helicopter be consumed by post-crash fire.  see also http://www.3CapesHeliChallenge.com/

10-Jun-12 5Y-CDT Eurocopter AS350B3e Ngong Hills, Kenya (6F)

Crashed in woodland killing Kenya's Security Minister, George Saitoti and his deputy Orwa Ojode, pilots Luke Oyugi, Nancy Gituanja and bodyguards Inspector Joshua Tonkei and Sergeant Thomas Murimis.  Only small size items remain after post-crash fire.  Helicopter had only been delivered earlier this year (see HeliHub.com story and local Kenyan story).  See also this YouTube video

"Late Sunday evening, a military helicopter crashed and caught fire inside Kenya from an apparent mechanical malfunction, a diplomat and a resident said. No civilian casualties were reported but the status of the pilots on board was not immediately known."
