Los Angeles County and Helicopter Support Inc. have agreed on a $4.2 million contract for the maintenance and repair of the county’s firefighting Sikorsky Firehawk helicopters. The contract will ensure that the county has readily available emergency response, reports Signals CV.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today authorized the Sheriff’s Dept to buy as many as 14 new helicopters at a cost of about $56.7M.Â The LASD Aviation Bureau has a replacement policy of “7,000 airframe hours or 7 years”

Aerial firefighting companies from as far away as Atlanta are working with ground forces to contain the devastating Station Fire still sweeping Los Angeles County. The fire has scorched more than157,220 acres or 246 square miles to date.
AgustaWestland announced Thursday at the ALEA Conference that the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has signed for a third AW139. This aircraft will join the two AW139s already in service performing critical aerial fire-fighting, medevac and search and rescue missions in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities.
