A bid by Sheriff Mike Kanalakis to get the county to underwrite the purchase of a law enforcement helicopter was grounded Tuesday. Kanalakis was hoping the Board of Supervisors would agree to guarantee about $660,000 in backup funding for a used Robinson R-44 helicopter if a hoped-for federal Homeland Security grant for the purchase doesn’t come through.
