Broadpoint, an industry leader in telecommunications and network solutions, has announced its contract with SandRidge Energy to provide critical offshore aviation communications to the Federal Aviation Administration. Using Broadpoint’s expansive digital communications network, the Federal Aviation Administration was able to successfully upgrade critical airspace communications equipment, located on offshore oil platforms owned by SandRidge Energy, without an interruption in service.

SandRidge Energy, a natural gas and crude oil company headquartered in Oklahoma City, Okla., owns and operates several offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico that house vital communications equipment for the Federal Aviation Administration. In 2009, the Federal Aviation Administration began upgrading its aviation communications equipment used for commercial, military and defense purposes to provide enhanced connectivity between offshore flights and land-based control towers.

Broadpoint was named as the communications provider of choice for this initiative because of its unique ability to offer constant connectivity alongside a custom installation and service package. Broadpoint offered unmatched operational, legal and logistical expertise, in addition to its reliable network, to the Federal Aviation Administration and SandRidge Energy as they worked together to shift the Federal Aviation Administration’s offshore aviation communications operations from one Sandridge platform to another in the Gulf of Mexico.

In addition, Broadpoint has, for a number of years, provided communications services to the Federal Aviation Administration at two other locations, offering access to its 100,000 square mile GSM/GPRS/Edge wireless network in the Gulf of Mexico.

“At Broadpoint, we understand that connectivity is critical to all of our customers, especially when it comes to efficiency, safety and collaboration, so we work hard to provide customized communications solutions that meet their unique needs,” said Errol Olivier, president and CEO, Broadpoint. “As offshore leaders for more than 20 years, Broadpoint’s commitment to excellence is unwavering, and we look forward to providing dependable, best-in-class service in the years to come.”
