Air Methods Corp. has presented a $100,000 pledge to MedEvac Foundation InternationalTM, as part of its continuing commitment to advance air-medical safety through greater research and education, while also supporting the organization’s valuable charitable endeavors.

“The research and education of air-medical transport programs is an essential component of Air Methods Corporation’s commitment to safe, quality patient transport and is vital to our mission of saving lives,” said Aaron Todd, chief executive officer of Air Methods. “It is our hope that this donation will enhance these important MedEvac Foundation initiatives, which are designed to support the entire industry, while also assisting in carrying out the Foundation’s charitable aims.”

“We greatly appreciate Air Methods Corporation’s generous donation,” said MedEvac Foundation International Chair Kevin Hutton, MD, FACEP. “This funding helps fulfill the mission and vision of the Foundation, which is to empower people and organizations to make a difference in medical transport across the globe, and to advance medical transport worldwide through research, education, outreach and charitable services.”

The Air Methods Corp. donation will help support implementation of the MedEvac Foundation’s:

• 2010 research and education grants, the recipients of which will be named in June 2010. Grant projects receiving funding in 2009 included research on the use of ultrasound stroke treatment in helicopter transport and studies assessing cognitive fatigue in pilots and air-medical crews, among others.
• Family Grant Fund, which provides financial assistance to families following a fatal air-medical crash.
• Children’s Scholarship Fund, which supports higher education for children who have lost a parent or guardian as a result of an air-medical accident.

Air Methods Corp. is the largest air medical transportation company in the world. MedEvac Foundation International is the charitable and research arm of the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS). The pledge was secured during the recent Helicopter Association International’s HELI-EXPO 2010 in Houston, Texas.
