ArmorWorks, a leading provider of advanced survivability products, today announced that the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MOD) has selected ArmorWorks for a Chief of Defence Materiel (CDM) Commendation. The recognition is for ArmorWorks’ outstanding performance in response to urgent armor requirements for U.K. Apache helicopters supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The CDM Commendation is awarded for achievements above and beyond normal performance expectations.

In 2008 the MOD had an urgent requirement to protect Apache helicopters from small arms ground fire in Afghanistan. The MOD selected ArmorWorks to provide an applique armor solution for the helicopter rocket launchers. ArmorWorks collaborated with the MOD, Agusta Westland Helicopters, and Arnold Electronics to quickly develop a conformal armor system. The team successfully engineered a solution that withstood rigorous ballistic testing, ground and flight trials, and culminated with an airworthiness qualification by the MOD and Agusta Westland. ArmorWorks expedited production and made deliveries to both the United Kingdom and Afghanistan in the first quarter of 2009.

“We are honored that the CDM selected ArmorWorks as part of the Apache Helicopter Urgent Operation Requirement Team for a Commendation,” commented William Perciballi, president of ArmorWorks. “This was a concerted effort with August Westland, Arnold Electronics, and the MOD. We are proud to be part of this team supporting the troops in Afghanistan.”

Air Commodore Mark Sibley of the UK AH-64 Apache Team and Vice Counsel Nick Hooper of the UK Trade and Investment in Los Angeles will present the CDM Commendation to the ArmorWorks team on April 19 at 4:30 p.m. in a ceremony at ArmorWorks headquarters in Chandler, Arizona.
