The Puget Sound Regional Aviation Group, made up of aviation units from King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties along with Washington State Patrol has been recognized for the “Outstanding Regional Partnership” award for 2010.  The Urban Area Security Initiative program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security.  This is the first year for the national awards.

The Regional Aviation Group was formed in 2004 to improve the capabilities, coordination, control, and interagency communication of the four Air Support Units in Western Washington. The Group supports numerous Law Enforcement agencies in the region and has formed partnerships with Fire agencies in Seattle, Pierce County and Snohomish County.

Since 2004 the Department of Homeland Security has contributed funding towards equipment and training for the Regional Aviation Group.  Funding has allowed the Regional Aviation Group to purchase a new Bell 407 helicopter, upgrade and existing Bell UH-1H helicopter, purchase FLIR equipment, along with communications and microwave downlink equipment.
