Leaders from the ABC Region of Sao Paulo met yesterday with state Secretary of Public Security, Antonio Ferreira Pinto.  Among a number of issues discussed was to request that one of the State’s twelve helicopters be dedicated full-time to the ABC Region.  Local response has been mixed to this idea, some suggesting that the State Government already does a good job of aerial law enforcement, while others are keen to establish a more defined service.

The State Secretariat of Public Security reported that the set of requests presented to him will go through technical analysis, without committing to addressing the issues in detail.

The ABC region is an industrial area on the south east outskirts of the huge Sao Paulo conurbation, originally the formation of the three cities of Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo, and São Caetano do Sul. Later, the region became known as the ABCD with the addition of Diadema and further additions have taking it to the less memorable name of ABCDMRR, with the addition of Mauá, Ribeirão Pires and Rio Grande da Serra.  Most people in Brazil know it still as ABC, and it covers an area of approx 750 square miles and has a population of 2.6 million
