Air Evac Lifeteam selected base mechanic Corey Wehmeyer of the Mineral Wells, Texas base as the 2010 Regional Mechanic of the Year for Region 5.

The Regional Mechanic of the Year award is presented to the employee who has contributed to the performance of the assigned base/region, and to the overall mission of Air Evac Lifeteam.

“Corey is an exemplary mechanic in every sense of the word. He has professionalism about the work he performs and a positive attitude to go with it. His outstanding performance in the day to day maintenance issues and particular attention to detail on the larger events and inspections, allows the pilots and medical crews to focus on their jobs and not concern themselves with maintenance issues on the aircraft,” explained Senior Director of Maintenance Dennis Cleaves.

“As a total team player, Corey’s immediate and thorough response to maintenance requests has proven to enhance the overall safety and mission capabilities of the base. Not only has his attention to detail kept the crews comfortable while performing their flying and medical missions, it has produced a more professional environment within which to work,” Cleaves said. “One nomination stated: On multiple occasions after departing for the day or during days off, Corey has returned to base to address issues brought up by the pilots during pre- or post-flight inspections. He never complained about having to return to ensure “his” aircraft or crews were 100 percent safe and ready to perform the next flight that was requested. His performance reflects great on himself, the maintenance team as a whole, and Air Evac Lifeteam as an air ambulance provider.”

“His positive attitude and integrity are second to none,” added Cleaves. “His credibility is unsurpassed and he is completely trusted by the pilots and the medical crews. He helps in all areas and has proven to be a primary asset to this base. Whether working late nights to keep our aircraft in service, conducting routine preventive maintenance, or while conducting field maintenance away from base, his attitude and good humor keep local morale at a high level and keep us available to support our community,” Cleaves said.

Wehmeyer has been employed with Air Evac Lifeteam since February 2006.
