Rescue Helicopters fly to Bornholm after patients in the region of 150 times a year. Until last Friday, patients transported by ambulance from hospital to the airport, but with the inauguration of the new heliport, avoided the trip now.
After a donation from TrygFonden has now built a new landing area for helicopters near Bornholm hospital, and instead of the resource and time consuming process with numerous transshipments in patients underway, the patient may now be rolled directly from the hospital and into the helicopter. It saves time and, not least spares the patient, which start best-of as few as possible transshipments.
Heli gate that bears the official name “Tryg Heliport Bornholm Hospital” was inaugurated on Friday September 17 at a reception where the staff at the hospital, artisans behind construction and other curious Bornholmer participated.
At the inauguration of the helicopter landing was also one of the EH101 helicopter rescue as the platform is built to handle. Commander T. Wandahl who have taken it about 45-minute flight between Bornholm and Rigshospitalet a myriad of times telling;  “For us in the helicopter means the new heliport at the hospital not very much, but it means a great deal for patients. Now they are transported from hospital to the airport and from Falck car and into the helicopter. Now they can be directly transported into the helicopter, and is the main difference.”
Another advantage of the heliport pointed Region President Vibeke Storm Rasmussen in his speech at the opening; “Helipad’en can have a decisive difference in major accidents on Bornholm. It was already confirmed in the summer when Helipad unofficially inaugurated in connection with an overturned coach with many casualties.”
At the time, flew helicopters in the shuttles with extra medical staff and blood from the mainland, while patients came along for the ride back. If one of the island’s few ambulances have been pulled out to take charge of patient transport between the hospital and the airport, it had perhaps been missing at the scene.
