The Brazilian Air Force has taken delivery of two new UH-60Ls, coded 8907 and 8908, in a handover ceremony on Sunday 13th February at Sikorsky’s facility at Elmira, New York state. The Black Hawks are painted in a new scheme not seen before in Brazil – a green/grey camouflage. This week sees the two helicopters being ferried by air to Santa Maria air force base in Brazil, where they will be operated by the 5/8th GAv (Grupo de Aviação) “Panther” Squadron and are the first two of what is believed to be a much larger order. The UH-60s will gradually replace a fleet of twenty Bell UH-1s which were retired by this squadron on 1st January 2011.
