Oil and gas producer Apache presents $400,000 cheque to STARS

Apache Corporation presented the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) with a $400,000 cheque today at the STARS Calgary Base. The cheque presentation elevates Apache’s total cumulative financial support of STARS to more than $1 million since 1990.

Approximately $200,000 is being directed to the STARS Emergency Link Centre (ELC) work site registration program. The other half is being donated to support the emergency response services provided by STARS.

The STARS ELC was originally established in 1996 to meet the emergency needs of industry working in remote locations.The resulting site registration service facilitates rapid emergency medical response coordination in the event of an emergency at a remote site. There are currently 4,208 work sites registered with STARS.

“Apache recognizes the value that STARS brings to ensuring the health and safety of our employees, contractors, families and neighbours to our operations,” said Apache Canada President Mr. Tim Wall. “Our continued support of STARS is very important to Apache Canada. Many of our operations are in remote areas and the service STARS provides is invaluable to Apache and our people,” Wall added.

Mr. Wall and Mr. Paul Weeks, Apache Canada’s Manager of Environment, presented the cheque to Mr. Phil Levson, Vice President of the STARS Foundation in front of a STARS BK117 helicopter and STARS employees, including the on-duty flight paramedic, flight nurse and pilots.

“Apache’s tremendous commitment to STARS will increase safety for employees working in remote locations,” said Mr. Levson. “It will also help enable STARS to continue providing rapid emergency medical care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients living in communities across Alberta and areas of eastern British Columbia.”
