RAF Linton-on-Ouse hosted the Yorkshire Air Ambulance recently when they dropped by to thank the station for their on-going support to the life-saving charity.

Group Captain Terry Jones, station commander, welcomed the 160 mph MD902 Explorer helicopter and it’s crew, which was flanked in a unique photograph by a Grob Tutor trainer aircraft of 85 Sqn from RAF Church Fenton, and a Tucano T1 from RAF Linton-on-Ouse.

The relationship between the station and the charity began when three young officers from Linton — Flying Officer’s Bobby Neaum, Mark Sharrock and Anthony Ellis — set themselves a challenge to pull a 3 tonne Tucano aircraft the one mile length of the runway at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in order to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

So far, the three have raised over £1000 for the air ambulance, and the station is also adding the charity to the list of local and national good causes that it will support during 2011. The station raises money at monthly charity events, and through it’s annual Gala on the Green, an outdoor concert and airshow held at the base. This year’s event will be held on 2nd September, and tickets will be available for the public. The just giving website address for the RAF Tucano pull is www.justgiving.com/anthony-ellis.

Tony Doveston, of Yorkshire Air Ambulance said: “We are absolutely delighted by the support that we have been given by RAF Linton-on-Ouse, and in particular the efforts of Anthony, Mark and Rob. It’s great to see the ongoing cooperation between the military and the air ambulance, which will continue into the future”

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across Yorkshire. They fly seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motor ways, but also rural and isolated locations.

RAF Linton on Ouse conducts Basic Fast Jet Training (BFJT) for the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy. It operates a fleet of Tucano T1 turboprop training aircraft.
