The Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury recently hosted the 13th Annual Raoul Hafner memorial lecture. The lectures are held each year at the north Shropshire airbase on aviation subjects with presentations by specialists across the genre.

The lectures are held in memory of the Austrian inventor responsible for developing the modern helicopter, Raoul Hafner. The lectures began 13 years ago at the unit after being co-founding by then Commandant of the school, Colonel Mike O’Donaghue. This year the lecture was presented by Mr Michael Roth, the Senior Project Manager, Future Transport Helicopter at Eurocopter. The event was presided over by Group Captain Jock Brown, Commandant of the Defence Helicopter Flying School.

The presentation, preceded by a dinner in the Officers Mess was a huge success, with the large audience giving a standing ovation. Also present at the event were members of the Shropshire branch of the Aircrew Association.
